Provisional result of the 2025 Bundestag election established

WIESBADEN – On 24 February 2025 at 4:15 a.m., the Federal Returning Officer announced the provisional result of the election to the 21st German Bundestag, which was held on 23 February 2025.

With voter turnout at 82.5 percent (2021: 76.4 percent), the parties and political associations obtained the following shares of all second votes:

The shares have been rounded to one decimal place, except where the figure is close to the five percent threshold. The share of invalid second votes is 0.6 % (2021: 0.9 %), and the share of invalid first votes is 0.9 % (2021: 1.0 %).

The Südschleswigscher Wählerverband (SSW) participates in the distribution of seats in the 21st German Bundestag as a party representing national minorities within the meaning of the Federal Elections Act. In accordance with Section 4 (2), third sentence, of the Federal Elections Act the five percent clause therefore does not apply to the SSW. The “Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht - Vernunft und Gerechtigkeit (BSW)” party will not enter the German Bundestag as it did not receive 5 % of all valid second votes and did not secure the most first votes in three constituencies.

As laid down in Section 1 (1), first sentence, of the Federal Elections Act, the Bundestag consists of 630 members.

The political parties indicated below will have the following number of seats in the 21st German Bundestag according to the official provisional election result:

Although 23 candidates won the most first votes in their constituency, their seats are not backed by the share of second votes their party received in the respective Land. The constituencies concerned are indicated in the Annex.

The provisional results of the 2025 Bundestag election for the Federation, Länder and individual constituencies, the candidates provisionally elected in the constituencies and Länder, and the number of Land list seats won by each party are available on the website of the Federal Returning Officer.

The Federal Electoral Committee will establish and announce the official final result of the 2025 Bundestag election in public in a meeting expected to be held on 14 March 2025 in the German Bundestag in Berlin.
