2025 Bundestag election: final result

WIESBADEN/BERLIN – At today's meeting, the Federal Electoral Committee established the final result of the election to the 21st German Bundestag. Afterwards, Federal Returning Officer Ruth Brand announced the final election result in the Marie-Elisabeth Lüders Building of the German Bundestag in Berlin.

With voter turnout at 82.5 percent (2021: 76.4 percent), the individual parties’ share of the valid second votes cast was as follows:

All percentages have been rounded to one decimal place for reasons of clarity. The number of valid second votes in the final result is 7,425 higher than in the provisional result. The share of invalid second votes is 0.6 % (2021: 0.9 %) and the share of invalid first votes is 0.8 % (2021: 1.0 %). The share of the second vote that went to ‘Other’ parties was distributed as follows (ordered by the number of votes received):

The percentages for these parties are also rounded to one decimal place. An exception applies if a party fell just short of the 5 percent threshold to enter the Bundestag. Then the percentage is rounded to three decimal places. Pursuant to Section 1 (1) of the Federal Elections Act, the newly elected Bundestag will have a total of 630 members (2021: 735). Based on the final election result, the political parties indicated below will have the following number of seats:

Based on the final result, there are no changes in the distribution of seats compared with the provisional result. The Südschleswigscher Wählerverband (SSW) participates in the distribution of the seats in the 21st German Bundestag as a party representing national minorities to which the restrictive clause does not apply.

The share of postal voters dropped to 37.0 %. In the 2021 Bundestag election, which was held under pandemic-related conditions, the share of postal voters stood at 47.3%. The highest percentage of postal voters in 2025 was recorded in Bayern (52.2 %) and the lowest in Thüringen (25.6 %).
