Candidates

A total of 4,451 candidates, among them 1,149 women (25.8 %), ran for the 2013 Bundestag Election. 1,005 people stood as candidates for a constituency only and 1,746 were on a Land list only, while 1,700 were both nominated for a constituency and on a Land list.

Parties admitted

In accordance with the decisions taken by the Federal Electoral Committee on 4 and 5 July 2013 and the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court of 23 July 2013, a total of 39 parties were entitled to participate in the 2013 Bundestag Election with Land and constituency nominations. What parties are actually listed on the ballot papers depends on whether a party has submitted valid nominations at all and in which of the Länder. In the end, the following 34 parties took part with their own nominations in all of Germany:
